The short version: Bogus? only does anything when you click it — unless you are a
subscriber who has explicitly switched on the optional Sentinel mode, in which case it also
scores pages as you browse (details below, off by default). When you click it, it reads the text of
the article on your current tab and sends that text to Sheaf's servers to analyze it for bogosity.
It does not collect personal information or sell data. That's the whole story.
What the extension accesses
- The text of the page you are on — only when you click the extension. Bogus? reads
the visible article text of the active tab so it can be analyzed. It does not read other tabs,
your history, your cookies, or anything else on the page.
- Nothing until you act. The extension takes no action, and reads nothing, unless you
open its popup and click the "read this page" button — or have switched on Sentinel (below).
- Sentinel (optional, subscribers only, OFF by default). If you are a Bogus? Unlimited
subscriber and you explicitly flip the Sentinel toggle in the popup, the extension sends the
address (URL) and title of pages you visit to Sheaf's API so it can show a bogosity score
on the toolbar icon. Page content is not read in this mode — only the URL and title. Scores are
cached anonymously per URL (never per person), no browsing profile is built or stored against
your account, and turning the toggle off (or signing out) stops all of it immediately.
- Your sign-in session. If you sign in at justbogus.com, the extension stores your
session token locally so Sentinel can recognize your subscription. It is sent only to
api.discursa.ai and never shared with anyone else.
What we do with it
- The article text is sent over HTTPS to Sheaf's API (api.discursa.ai), which asks a
panel of independent AI models to assess the content for reliability and bogosity, and returns that
analysis to the extension for display.
- To produce the analysis, the text is processed by third-party AI providers (such as the
makers of the underlying models). It is used only to generate your result.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
- We do not track your browsing history or build an advertising profile.
- We do not collect your name, email, passwords, or payment information through the
extension.
- We do not run analytics or ad trackers inside the extension.
Data retention
Article text submitted for analysis may be retained transiently to operate and improve the
service, and is not associated with your identity. We keep it no longer than needed to provide the
feature and meet operational and legal requirements.
Your choices
You control when the extension runs — it only acts on your click. You can remove it at any time
from chrome://extensions, which ends all access immediately.
